Rhum Clément X.O. is, in a word, rare. In fact, it's more than rare, being a blend of some of the most famous and precious vintages the island of Martinique has ever produced - 1952, 1970 and 1976, to be precise.
And from this blend comes the delicately powerful flavours of each vintage: spice, toffee, and tobacco that roll and swirl and meld to create one of the finest sipping rums on the market.
But there is a much greater depth to the taste than a few nostalgic hints. The spice is compounded by rich fruitcake, coffee and tarragon. Yet it's a little sweet too, with scintillas of honey, vanilla and dried, dark fruits, and finished with Demerrera sugar and maple.
There's no surprise, then, that it's been recognised by rum aficionados all across the globe. And we agree with the Spirit Journal, that Clement X.O Rhum is a wonder in an extra-aged class all of its own.
And you can find it for under AUD200 a bottle.
